Admin Dashboard Stats + Info: Make Your WordPress Dashboard Actually Useful - PatrickDankers.nl

The WordPress dashboard is usually the first screen you see when you log in, yet for many websites it tells you surprisingly little about what is actually happening.

Want to know how much content has been published? You head to Posts. Looking for drafts or scheduled articles? That means another overview. Checking comments requires another screen, while information about PHP, memory usage, WordPress Cron, caching, disk space or your database may be hidden somewhere completely different.

All of that information exists, but getting a useful overview can involve far too much clicking around.

That is the problem I wanted to solve with **Admin Dashboard Stats + Info**.

The plugin turns the standard WordPress dashboard into a much more useful starting point by bringing together editorial, content, discussion, scheduling, media and technical information in one place.

And because not every website needs the same information, you decide what should actually appear.

## One dashboard instead of six different places

Admin Dashboard Stats + Info is built around six separate dashboard widgets. You can enable the ones that are useful for your website and simply leave the others disabled.

The idea is not to turn WordPress into another complicated analytics platform. Instead, the plugin focuses on practical information that can help you understand the state of your website shortly after logging in.

### 1. Editorial Overview

The **Editorial Overview** gives you a quick picture of the amount of content on your website and the people publishing it.

Rather than opening several WordPress screens just to get a feel for the size and activity of a website, you can see important editorial information directly on the dashboard.

For websites with multiple authors, this can be particularly useful because the overview can help you understand not only how much content exists, but also how many different people are actively contributing.

With **Admin Dashboard Stats + Info Pro**, the widget can go a step further by showing activity that took place since your previous login, including things such as:

- Newly published content
- New drafts
- Edited content
- Scheduled publications
- Deleted content
- Newly registered users

That makes the dashboard especially useful when you manage an active website and want to know what changed while you were away.

### 2. Content Breakdown

Knowing that you have hundreds or thousands of pieces of content is one thing. Knowing what state that content is in can be considerably more useful.

The **Content Breakdown** widget gives you an overview of content statuses such as published, scheduled, draft and trashed items. It can also show information such as when content was last modified.

The Lite edition supports normal WordPress posts and pages, while Pro can also include **public custom post types**.

That becomes important on websites where WordPress is doing considerably more than publishing blog posts. Products, events, reviews, portfolio items, jobs, courses and many other types of information are commonly stored as custom post types.

With Pro, these can become part of your dashboard overview as well.

### 3. Discussion Overview

Comments are easy to forget about until you deliberately open the Comments section of WordPress.

The **Discussion Overview** puts useful comment information directly on your dashboard, including figures that help give you an impression of how active discussions on your website actually are.

For example, you can quickly see information about approved comments, commenters and returning commenters without first digging through the complete comment administration screen.

Pro additionally provides more detailed activity since your previous login. That can include new replies, approved comments, comments awaiting approval, spam and deleted comments.

On websites with an active community or multiple authors, that can make it much easier to see whether something requires attention.

### 4. Scheduled Content

If you work ahead, scheduled content can be one of the most important parts of your editorial workflow.

The **Scheduled Content** widget gives you a clear dashboard overview of publications that are waiting to go live, including useful information such as their publication date, title, author and content type.

Instead of repeatedly opening the Posts or Pages screens and filtering for scheduled content, you can immediately see what is coming up.

Lite supports posts and pages, while Pro extends this to public custom post types.

Pro can also visually highlight scheduled content carrying the **breaking** tag, including the ability to customize the highlight color. That can be useful for editorial websites where certain scheduled publications need to stand out immediately.

### 5. Available Image Sizes

WordPress image handling can become surprisingly complicated. Upload a single image and WordPress may create several additional versions of it. Your theme can register its own image sizes, and plugins can add even more.

Before long, a website can have considerably more registered image sizes than you realized.

The **Available Image Sizes** widget shows the image sizes currently registered on your WordPress installation, including information such as:

- Image size name
- Maximum width
- Maximum height
- Whether cropping is enabled

This makes it much easier to understand what WordPress is actually doing whenever you upload an image.

The plugin can also draw attention to websites with a large number of registered image sizes. That matters because every additional generated image can require extra storage and processing whenever new media is uploaded.

### 6. Server Health and Info

This is one of the areas where I personally wanted considerably more information within easy reach.

WordPress, PHP and your hosting environment contain plenty of useful technical information, but it is normally spread across several different screens and tools.

The **Server Health and Info** widget brings much of that information together directly inside WordPress.

Depending on what your hosting environment makes available, this can include information relating to:

- WordPress version
- PHP version
- WP-CLI
- WordPress API access
- PHP memory
- Server memory
- CPU load
- Available disk space
- Plugin and theme information
- SSL and HTTPS
- Server and WordPress timezones
- Database information
- WordPress Cron
- Object caching
- Page caching
- The WordPress advanced-cache configuration
- Web server software

You certainly do not need to be a server administrator to benefit from this information. Sometimes the value is simply being able to see that a WordPress Cron task is overdue, an update is available, HTTPS is active, disk space is becoming limited or a caching mechanism is being detected.

It is intended as a practical first overview rather than a replacement for your hosting provider, security tools or specialist server monitoring.

Pro adds several additional administration features here as well. You can change the order of the Server Health blocks, arrange them using a live preview, export available server information and, when applicable, request another WordPress Cron run for overdue tasks.

Being able to export server information can also be useful when you need to send relevant details to a developer or hosting provider without gathering everything manually.

## You decide what belongs on your dashboard

A useful dashboard for a content editor may look completely different from a useful dashboard for a developer or website administrator.
That is why Admin Dashboard Stats + Info does not force every available piece of information onto the screen.

Individual widgets can be enabled or disabled, and you can configure which available information should appear within them.

You can also control the **minimum WordPress capability required to see each widget**.

That means technical server information could, for example, be limited to administrators while editorial information remains available to other users. Pro provides additional customization, including custom dashboard widget titles, more visual options and control over the shared ADSI branding.

[![Admin Dashboard Stats + Info](https://patrickdankers.nl/storagespace/files/adsi-01-1024x598.avif)](https://patrickdankers.nl/storagespace/files/adsi-01.avif)

## Designed to provide information without doing unnecessary work

Adding more information to the WordPress dashboard should not mean performing unnecessary calculations every time someone opens it. Admin Dashboard Stats + Info therefore only registers widgets that you have actually enabled and only calculates the information those widgets require.

More demanding information can be cached so that WordPress does not need to completely recalculate it during every dashboard visit. The Lite edition uses a predefined caching configuration, while Pro lets you configure the cache duration yourself.

## Start with Lite and decide how far you want to take it

I wanted the free edition to be genuinely useful on its own rather than functioning as little more than a demonstration.

**Admin Dashboard Stats + Info Lite includes all six core dashboard widgets:**

- Editorial Overview
- Content Breakdown
- Discussion Overview
- Scheduled Content
- Available Image Sizes
- Server Health and Info

You can enable and disable individual widgets, decide what information should be shown and control which users are allowed to see them. For many WordPress websites using normal posts and pages, that may already provide exactly the overview you were looking for.

So if the concept sounds useful, **you can simply start with the Lite edition for free** and see how it fits into your normal WordPress workflow.

If you later want considerably more control, **Admin Dashboard Stats + Info Pro** expands on that same foundation.

Among other things, Pro adds:

- Support for public custom post types
- Editorial activity since your previous login
- Extended comment activity since your previous login
- Custom dashboard widget titles
- Additional tooltips and visual effects
- Highlighting for important scheduled content
- Customizable Server Health block ordering
- Live preview while arranging Server Health information
- Server information exports
- Actions for overdue WordPress Cron tasks
- Configurable caching
- Plugin settings import and export
- Additional branding controls

In other words, Lite gives you the essential overview for free, while Pro is there when you want that overview to become a more configurable part of your day-to-day WordPress administration.

## Part of a growing collection of practical WordPress plugins

Admin Dashboard Stats + Info is not the only WordPress tool I have been working on. I am also developing several plugins around the increasingly important relationship between WordPress content, crawlers, AI systems and machine-readable information.

### AEO – Markdown Server

[**AEO – Markdown Server**](https://patrickdankers.nl/en/plugins/aeo-mds/) provides an alternative, machine-friendly Markdown representation of your existing WordPress content.

Your normal HTML pages remain available to visitors, while supported content can also be requested as clean Markdown. This can be useful for software, development tools, AI-oriented workflows and other systems that benefit from a cleaner representation of the actual content without all of the surrounding HTML.

### AEO – Robots.txt Server

[**AEO – Robots.txt Server**](https://patrickdankers.nl/en/plugins/aeo-rtxts/) brings robots.txt management into WordPress and places particular emphasis on the growing number of AI, LLM and other automated crawlers visiting modern websites.

You can manage supported crawlers from the WordPress administration area and choose whether they should be explicitly allowed, disallowed or left without an additional rule, while the plugin dynamically builds your virtual robots.txt configuration.

### AEO – LLMs Server

[**AEO – LLMs Server**](https://patrickdankers.nl/en/plugins/aeo-llms/) dynamically creates `/llms.txt` and `/llms-full.txt` endpoints using the public WordPress content you select.

Rather than manually maintaining separate files whenever your website changes, WordPress remains the source of the information and the plugin takes care of generating the machine-readable output.

## And there is more to come

These plugins all started from essentially the same question: *is there a practical WordPress task that could be made clearer, easier to manage or less repetitive?*

Sometimes that means making useful website information available directly on the WordPress dashboard. Sometimes it means giving administrators better control over how their content is made available to crawlers and AI-oriented systems.

There are plenty more areas within WordPress where I think this same approach can be useful, so Admin Dashboard Stats + Info and the current AEO plugins are certainly not the end of it.

**More WordPress tools are on the way.**

## A better starting point every time you log in

The WordPress dashboard should be more than a screen you immediately click away from. Admin Dashboard Stats + Info is intended to turn it into a practical overview of the things you may actually want to know: what is published, what is waiting, what has changed, how active discussions are, what WordPress is doing with images and whether important parts of the website environment deserve your attention.

You do not have to commit to the complete feature set to find out whether that approach works for you.

**Start with the free Lite edition.** Use the six core widgets, configure the information that matters to you and see whether having everything together makes your WordPress administration easier.

If you find yourself wanting custom post types, deeper activity information, more customization and the additional administration tools, Pro is there to take it further.
